Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool passes directly to the outside company that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Calhoun County Criminal History does not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can create ordinary server and analytics data about the visit, including:
- Page-view dates and times
- Visited pages and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- A referring site, when one is supplied
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which resources are used most and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, though a blocked cookie may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the selected partner
- Diagnose faults and maintain site performance
- Understand which Calhoun County resources receive useful traffic
- Keep pages available and responsive
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Calhoun County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to approach the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, the county courts, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies provide the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted through those features. Review the provider's policy before sending a query because this policy does not control the partner's processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Calhoun County agency directory, the Clerk of Court, the county's FOIA page, South Carolina agency portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's own privacy policy applies. Read it before supplying personal data.
An advertising provider may use its own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring site traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query that a visitor submits
- Advertising networks serving material on a page
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so the possibility of unauthorized access cannot be eliminated.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such information is identified, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on where a visitor lives. South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act, Title 30, Chapter 4 governs access to public-body records, while S.C. Code §§23-3-110 through 23-3-130 governs SLED criminal-identification records and dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public records custodian. For personal data this site holds, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of eligible personal data
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek a copy of personal data held about them
- Opt out of processing where the governing law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
